Saree Not Saree: India 2013

It's funny how time and distance change you, the roads you take don't always lead you home.

On India

There are so many images here that I wish to share. Not things you can capture on film, like the technicolor fruit stands or overcrowded streets. But the way life is–trash burning in heaps, narrowly escaping getting crushed by decorated vehicles of every size, geckos watching you shower, potty trained babies running around without pants. These are the images, daily, that have stopped phasing me. Day one–my jaw dropped, my senses overloaded, heart pouding as I weaved through traffic in an open air vehicle. Today, this is life as I have come to accept it. Different. Loud, colorful, flavorful. Descriptive terms fleeting, I struggle to share my environment.

This blog reminds me of a quote your junior year AP teacher put on the board the first day: “Words are a microcosm of human consciousness.” You are attempting to pen the personal realities to those that can only barely scratch the surface of your incredible experiences. Keep writing and we will keep scratching!
