Saree Not Saree: India 2013

It's funny how time and distance change you, the roads you take don't always lead you home.

Hotel Crashers

There are so many sides to India. For two months, I went to temples and volunteered and bargained and toured. I have begun to dip my toe into the fancy side of India. Hey, I am here to fully understand the culture, right?

On weekends when there is little to do. Abroad problems. Keddy and I have made it our new afternoon activity to sneak our way poolside at 5 star hotels. After a long night exploring the Bollywood dubstep dance scene, a lazy afternoon is all we need. We sipped iced coffees and took a dip under the blaring sun as we watched the pretty people live their lives. The difference between us and them? They go up to their suites and we head home to our hard, twin beds. No complaints though. An afternoon on the side of luxury is enough to get us through the next week. Bonus–I have begun to even out my sandal tan!

Today we made so friends with fellow American pool crashers who are in India working at Deloitte. It was refreshing to talk with them even though we are having different experiences. They introduced us to their friend. A body painter. Where we both got tattoos. An elephant for me (obviously) and a peacock for Keddy. We left them to their cocktails in the early evening and headed home for dinner with promises to see them again. A refreshing and successful Sunday to say the least.

Heading home to our post across Mr. Das (house manager) we researched sushi joints. Needless to say I am salivating and counting down the minutes until I eat more sushi than any local thought was humanly possible. Saree I most certainly am not. Also, this blog may have to turn into a food blog. As of late, I have been doing a lot of eating. From street food to sushi, Hyderabad look out.

Wow…how long does that paint tattoo last? Very pretty but I guess you don’t get to show it off much since you need to stay covered!
